The Crete Mountain Biking tours offer cycling with mountain bikes on dirt roads, old trails and isolated asphalt roads in Crete, to visit traditional villages and mountainous and coastal areas.

East Crete Self Guided Cycling - 8 days mountain biking in Crete
DAY 1: Meet at Heraklion airport and transfer to the hotel in Heraklion city by the sea. In the evening we shall have a brief presentation of the whole trip and preparation of the bikes (Overnight in Gouves)
DAY 2 (Total 46 Km, 27 km off road): After breakfast you shall cycle towards the inland of east Crete, passing through pastures and olive groves, traditional and agricultural villages. Crossing the Kasteli valley, we shall reach the enchanting villages of Amariano and Kastamonitsa and shall continue to reach the quite village of Avdou where you will overnight. (Overnight in Avdou)
DAY 3 (Total 35 Km, 15 km off road): From Avdou you shall climb up to the village of Krassi. This approximately one hour ascend, offers spectacular view to Lagada’s valley and the north coast. At Krassi village you may rest under the shade of the biggest sycamore tree (plane tree) in Crete, over 1000 years old. From Krassi you shall descend to the north coast. Leaving behind the touristic area of Mallia you will end up at the village of Sissi. (Overnight in Sissi)
DAY 4 (Total 58 Km, 15 km off road): Leaving behind the village of Sissi, you shall pass from the village of Milatos, where you can visit the historic Milatos cave to continue to one of the most wild-beautiful corners on Crete, the Mirabello province. Passing through old isolated villages, deserted flourmills, monasteries and chapels, you shall cross “Aforesmenos” cape, cycling on coastal areas that offer us breathtaking views to the bays of Elounda and Spinalonga Island. (Overnight in Elounda)
DAY 5: (Total 42 Km, 14 km off road). For those interested in Cretan and Greek history, today’s tour is a rewarding one as you can visit the triple-aisled church of Panagia Kera with the most outstanding Byzantine frescoes of Crete, and the ancient city of Lato, which was founded in the 700 BC by the Dorians. From Kritsa you may cycle to the enchanting village of Kroustas with spectacular view to Agios Nikolaos and Mirabello Bay. From Kroustas you may descend to Kalo Horio. (Overnight in Kalo Horio)
DAY 6 (Total 44 Km, 15 km off road): Today you shall cycle on the east side of Dicti Mountain range, passing through Kalamafka and Males village. The view to the southeast coast and the island of Hrissi, is extraordinary. You shall descend to Mythi village and end up at the village of Myrtos at the south coast. (Overnight in Myrtos)
DAY 7 (Total 35 Km, 15 km off road): For the last cycling day you shall follow the coastal roads and tracks from Myrtos to Keratokambos. Passing from the small fishing villages of Tertza, Psari Forada, Arvi and Keratokambos you will have the chance to refresh yourselves in the crystal clear waters before embarking on the minibus and return back to Heraklion. (Overnight in Heraklion)
DAY 8: This is the end of the trip. We transfer you to Heraklion airport at a convenient time.
East Crete Self Guided Cycling Trip - Details
Price/Person: €910 (Single Supplement: €120)
(In case that you bring your own bike there is a discount of €100)
Price Includes: All accommodation (7 nights in double rooms), group transfers to and from Heraklion airport, Mountain bikes, Helmets, (SPD pedals on request), baggage transport, personal accident insurance, VAT.
Not Included: Transport to and from Crete, all meals (lunches & dinners), alcoholic beverages and soft drinks, personal expenses, entrance fees in Museums and other sites of interest (i.e. monasteries, caves, etc).
Insurance: Everyone participating in any of Cretan Adventures events/activities is covered by personal insurance through CHARTIS GREECE. In case a participant is already covered by their insurance under better conditions for the chosen activities and is unwilling to be covered by CHARTIS GREECE, they must notify in paper the above to Cretan Adventures one day before the event (excluding weekends or holidays), the latest.
Cretan Adventures is not responsible for any accidents or mishaps directly or indirectly related to the tour.
Period: Any date upon request from April to October 2012.
Accommodation: Bed and Breakfast Basis. 3 - 5 star hotels in the main cities, local inns and village pensions throughout the trip (all with private facilities). The trip prices are based on double occupancy.
Group Size: 4-16 participants.
Note on Itineraries: Please bear in mind that the itinerary can be altered for numerous reasons beyond our control (e.g. harsh weather, trail conditions) to ensure the safety and the well being of the group. The final cycling selection is left up to the Cretan Adventures.
